A great way to travel Vietnam with Family! Can you imagine sharing the evening with your family on the deck of a traditional Junk in Ha Long Bay, staring at the stars, sharing stories of family life with a Vietnamese family in the Mekong Delta and snorkelling along the white sandy coast of Southern Vietnam. This trip allows you to do all of this and more on a wonderful voyage of discovery in Vietnam with your family.
Vietnam’s capital city Hanoi proudly displays it’s rich Southeast Asian, French and Chinese architecture that line narrow streets that to the visitor trying to cross the road looks completely chaotic as rivers of scooters, bicycles and hawkers flow past. But the busy streets is where the real Hanoi experience lies in wait for the inquisitive traveller. You can start the day by watching or joining in with locals at Hoan Kiem lake practicing Tai Chi or challenge a grandfather to a game of chess to exercise the mind too. Then explore the winding streets of the Old Quarter with it’s markets, shops and smells of delicious street food before stopping for a coffee or cold beer at a pavement cafe and watch the locals go about their daily business.
Day 1 – Hanoi
On your arrival at Hanoi international airport you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to you hotel. There are no activities planned on the arrival day.
Day 2 – Hanoi
This morning, after breakfast, you will participate in a fun treasure hunt which is designed to help you explore the Old Quarter of Hanoi to look for different objects at different places such as markets, temples and traditional houses. In the afternoon continue to explore Hanoi with its famous Temple of Literature also known as the “First University of Vietnam” followed by a traditional water puppet show.
Day 3 – Hanoi
A free day to explore Vietnam’s capital city at your own pace.
We can advise and arrange any number of optional family friendly excursions in Hanoi including a visit to the Ethnology Museum to learn about Vietnam’s 54 different ethnic groups, a handicraft class to make a traditional toy and an evening theatre show.
Located in North East Vietnam and about 100 miles from Hanoi is arguably Vietnam’s main attraction, Ha Long Bay. Dominated by the towering limestone columns that rise from the sparkling waters of the Gulf of Tonkin the 1500 square kilometers that make up the UNESCO world heritage site is possibly the most impressive karst scenery landscape in Asia.
Day 4 – Hanoi > Ha Long Bay
After breakfast you will be collected from your hotel and driven to the stunning UNESCO World Heritage site of Ha Long Bay with its 3,000 islands of towering limestone dotted throughout the Gulf of Tonkin. On arrival you will board a luxurious traditional Vietnamese junk for an overnight cruise on Ha Long Bay. Lunch and dinner are served during the cruise including an excellent menu of fresh seafood.
Day 5 – Ha Long Bay > Hanoi > Hue
Enjoy breakfast on the bay as you continue to cruise quietly through spectacular limestone formations of Ha Long Bay. Enjoy the more isolated islands of the bay before heading back to land and meeting your transfer to Hanoi airport in good time to board your onward flight to Hue. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel for check in.
Located on the Perfume River, Hue (pronounced Hway) was Vietnam’s capital city for almost 145 years in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Some important buildings survived the American war including the impressive citadel and Minh Mang tomb which add to the imperial feel of this charming city.
Day 6 – Hue – Cycle Tour
After breakfast depart for the Thien Mu pagoda before boarding a boat to the Tien Non pier, where your bikes will be waiting to begin a very pleasant bike ride to the villages of Sinh and Thanh Tien. The ride is easy, the two villages being only a few kilometers apart on flat ground and the landscapes along the route is very typical of rural Vietnam but also at times surprising. This bike ride will be an opportunity to discover the charms of the Hue countryside, its ancient villages, its pagodas and churches as well as its lotus flower covered rivers. In the afternoon visit the Imperial Palace located on the banks of the Perfume River.
Day 7 – Hue > Hoi An
After breakfast visit the Tomb of Minh Mang before boarding the train to Danang via the scenic Hai Van pass to view one of the most beautiful panoramas in Vietnam. The standard on train is very basic, however this is a perfect chance to mingle with the locals while watching beautiful coastline from the train window. Arrive in Danang in the afternoon, take a private car to Hoi An (45min driving) and check in at your hotel. The remainder of the day is free to relax or explore Hoi An.
The ancient port of Hoi An is steeped in history and culture. Stunning architechture of Japanese and French merchant houses, Chinese temples and tea warehouses line the old canals and river banks of this central coastal town giving it a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere in stark contrast to the 21st century hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City.
Day 8 – Hoi An
After breakfast it’s time to discover Hoi An. Cars and motorbikes are banned from much of Hoi An so strolling through the narrow streets of the town to explore this UNESCO world heritage site is a pleasure. Sites included in the walking tour include the Japanese Bridge, the Chinese Temple and Tan Ky trading house. In the afternoon you join a traditional lantern workshop lanterns where you will have the chance to discover this handicraft and create one yourself. The rest of day is at your leisure to enjoy the beach or Hoi An town.
Day 9 – Hoi An
A day at leisure to soak up more of this stunning place. A chance to rest up or we can advise and arrange a number of optional excursions for you including traditional fishing or a Vietnamese cooking lesson.
The former capital of Indochina and commonly known as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh city is an energetic mix of ancient and modern, Asian and European. Temples of worshipers burning incense stand next to grand colonial French buildings and the genuine luxury goods of chic modern air conditioned boutiques compete with the knock offs at the chaotic street markets.
Day 10 – Hoi An > Ho Chi Minh City
After breakfast transfer to the airport in Danang for a short flight to Ho Chi Minh City. You will be met in Saigon by your guide and transferred to the city where you will start your exploration of this dynamic metropolis. Today you will visit historic sites including: the Old Post Office of Saigon, the Notre Dame cathedral, Dong Khoi Street and the Chinese District of Cho Lon with bustling Binh Tay Market and Thien Hau Pagoda.
Day 11 – Ho Chi Minh City > Mekong Delta
After breakfast your guide will take you from Ho Chi Minh City to explore Ben Tre in the Mekong Delta by boat, foot and rickshaw. Cruise along the Chet Say river (a branch of the Mekong) and visit small rural businesses to give you a picture of how the local economy works, including a coconut processing workshop where you can sample fresh coconut and see how every single part of this versatile nut is turned into food and other products. Then meander through the small canals and view local communities going about their daily business in the delta. You will also walk and take a rickshaw through some quiet villages before stopping at a local house for a delicious and typical lunch. A relaxing cruise through the delta will take you back for your transfer to Ho Chi Minh City.
The sandy crescent beach surrounded by hills draped in lush tropical rainforest is what makes Nha Trang one or Vietnam’s premium beach resorts. The beach is a wonderful place to relax and unwind while you catch up on your book or gaze out at the tropical islands that dot the seascape. While the seafront restaurants, chic shops and lively nightlife offer further activities once the golden sun has set.
Day 12 – Ho Chi Minh City > Nha Trang
Some free time in Ho Ch Minh City before being collected from your hotel and transferred to the aiport for the short flight to Nha Trang. On arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel where the rest of the day is at your leisure.
Day 13 & 14 – Nha Trang
Two free days to relax, unwind and reflect on your exciting journey through Vietnam. However if you want further activities we can advise on and arrange a number of options in the Nha Trang area.
Day 15 – Nha Trang > Tour Ends
After breakfast you will be transferred from your hotel to Nha Trang airport to board a flight to Ho Chi Minh City to connect with your onward flight home.
